Background

I grew up in Royal City, Washington. I enjoyed playing basketball and baseball. I have worked since the age of 10. Apple picking, cleaning beets, pruning grapes, irrigating, picking rocks out of fields, driving tractor, driving a "spud" truck, sacking potatoes and loading trains, working at a gas station, were a few of the jobs I held. During the summers we used to travel to Minnesota and Nebraska to thin and clean beets. You can see why I really value my career as an educator.

After high school graduation, I was fortunate enough to qualify for some grant money and loans, so I attended the University of Washington. Four years later, I did my student teaching in Moses Lake, after which I was offered a job as a 4th grade bilingual teacher. In 1988 I began teaching at Lincoln Elementary and a few years later at Pioneer Middle School.

Currently, I am married to RoseMarie (20 years and counting) and have three daughters and one son and two grandsons....Oh and our faithful family dog, Osa.
