1)    Accuracy- correctness of a measurement

2)    Compare- to look for similarities

3)    Contrast- to emphasize differences

4)    Controlled Variable (kept the same)-a variable that is unchanged in an experiment

5)    Description- a verbal or written explanation of something

6)    Evidence- proof or facts that support data

7)    Interpret- to explain the meaning of information, facts, and observations

8)    Issue- a topic to be discussed, researched or investigated

9)    Manipulated Variable (changed)-the variable that is changed and tested in an experiment

10) Meter- the base unit of distance or length in the metric system

11) Opinion- the view that someone takes about a certain issue

12) Pattern-a regular or repeated order or arrangement

13) Phenomena- facts or events that can be observed

14) Property-characteristic of a material that helps to identify or classify matter

15) Relationship- a connection or similarity between two or more things

16) Reliable- getting the same or very similar results after multiple trials

23) Atmosphere- the mass of air surrounding the Earth

24) Axis- a straight line an object rotates around

25) Core- innermost zone of Earth

26) Crust- the rigid outermost part of Earth

27) Dew point- air temperature at which water vapor will condense on a surface into liquid water

28) Eclipse- when one solar system object passes between the sun and another object, casting a shadow

29) Fossil- remains, impression, track, or other evidence of once living organisms

30) Gravity- force of attraction between any two objects

31) Groundwater- water that collects in cracks and spaces in the rocks beneath EarthÕs surface

32) Lunar- related to the moon

33) Mantle- a layer of EarthÕs surface, lying just below the crust and above the inner core

34) Orbit (noun and verb)- when one object in space goes around another object in space, such as, the moon around the Earth

35) Phases of the Moon- the different shapes that the moon appears to have during each month

36) Solar System- the sun and the planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and dust particles that are in orbit around the sun

38) Air Pressure- the measure of the weight of the atmosphere per unit of area on EarthÕs surface

39) Climate- average weather conditions of an area over a long period of time

40) Condensation- the process by which a gas or vapor changes to a liquid

41) Erosion- the mechanical process of wearing or grinding something down

42) Eruption- when materials such as gas, steam, ash, or lava come from a volcano

43) Evaporation- the process by which a liquid turns into a gas or vapor

44) Glacier- a huge mass of ice slowly flowing over a landmass

45) Landform- one of the features that make up the earth's surface

46) Landform Profile- the vertical section of a landform showing the layers

47) Landmass- a very large area of land, such as a continent

48) Landslide- a form of erosion in which a large amount of landÕs surface suddenly slides down hill

49) Mineral- a solid natural material that has a crystal form and its own set of properties

50) Precipitation- any form of water, such as rain, snow, sleet, or hail, that falls to the Earth's surface

51) Sediment- small pieces of material that have broken off of rocks and have been deposited by water, wind, or ice

52) Topographic- graphic representation of the surface features of a place on a map, indicating their relative positions and elevations

53) Weather- conditions in the atmosphere, including humidity, cloud cover, temperature, wind, and precipitation

54) Watershed- the area of land that drains water from higher land to lower land into a river-system

55) Water table- the layer beneath EarthÕs surface that is saturated with ground water

56) Weathering-process by which water, wind, and ice wear down rocks and other exposed surfaces

60) Metamorphic -rocks that have been changed over time by high pressures and temperatures inside EarthÕs crust

61) Rock Cycle -process by which rocks can be changed into different kinds of rocks
