What Is The CPM Curriculum?
CPM is a middle grades and secondary mathematics program that
integrates basic skills and topics with conceptual understanding and
problem soving stratiegies to achieve a complete and balanced curriculum.
What Does CPM Strive to Accomplish?
- Help more students learn more mathematics more effectively
- Regenerate student interest and performance in math
- Enable students to take more college preparatory math classes
- Provide math education that will make students competive in the global marketplace.
What are the most effective ways to foster long term learning?
- Initial learning of a concept is best supported by discussion within cooperative groups
- Integration of knowledge is best supported by a wide array of problems around a core idea
- Long-term retention of knowledge is best supported by spaced practice or spiraling.
Grade 7 Focal Points based on Washington State Standards
- Developing an understanding of and applying proportionality, including similarity
- Developing an understanding of and using formulas to determine surface areas and volumes of three-dimensional shapes
- Developing an understanding of operations on all rational numbers and solving linear equations.
These expectations can only be met with student dedication to learning.
This means
that they must come to school everyday, do their homework and participate in class daily.
