Some Reading Rubrics
|
During Core, students improve their reading and comprehension by practicing basic techniques proven to increase reading levels. The best way to improve reading skills is to read every day. One way to encourage daily reading, is a weekly assignment called R@SH (Read at Home & School). Students earn points for recording 150 minutes of their reading time, then practice comprehension skills by answering reading strategy questions. The most important way to become a better reader is to develop a love for reading. A few techniques to accomplish this are: student reading groups, book clubs, student choice for reading, and probably the most impacting way is to see others model their love of reading. To monitor improvement 7th graders take quarterly tests providing data for instruction as well as practice for the WASL. One day each week is focused entirely on to readers' workshop in which students get the opportunity to choose between a number of different reading opportunities, such as: silent reading, book clubs, or small-group teacher lead skill development. |
