CONCERT MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT
Attendance is REQUIRED at ALL concerts and programs which involve our Mariachi Class. The performance is, in effect, our “final exam” and is graded as such. A student who misses a concert for whatever reason must make up that grade in one of the following ways:
Option 1: 200 word report on one of the listed subjects (or one approved by the instructor) Must use an encyclopedia and /or a book or article for reference.
unexcused* absence: 300 word report
Option 2: Attend two concerts and write a 50 word report PLUS a program from each concert.
unexcused absence: 3 concerts and 50 word report Plus a program from each concert.
Option 3: Two performances on your instrument at two of the following: a family gathering, at church, for your class, at a convalescent center or retirement home, a club meeting; & a Parental note confirming completion unexcused absence: Three (3) performances as listed above
Option 4: A combination of any of the above, as approved by the instructor.
* an excused absence is defined as: due to illness with a phone call OR written notice from the parent PRIOR to the concert. OR: 2 or more days absence from school including the day of the concert.
Possible topics for reports: Violin (viola, cello, double bass): its history, or construction; a famous composer; a famous classical musician; a particular piece of music (for instance: the Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, Fantasia); The orchestra: its history and the various sections; etc. Any other music topic you wish as long as it is approved by the instructor.
