Learning Improvement Team Minutes
February 6, 2008
Operating Principle: The committee will operate on a consensus basis, with
each voice being heard. Minutes from January 17, 1995: ÒIt was discussed and
agreed that a significant majority of votes of team members present would be

É When determining the uses for ÒMedicaid MatchÓ dollars, the following should be considered:
Funds may be made available for any medical or academic related needs students have that parents or guardians are unable to provide.
Funds may be made available for meeting academic needs of students. Those monies could provide para-pro services, bus/transportation needs, and after school tutoring for students.
Funds may be made available for meeting academic needs outside FMS programs. That may include summer school tuition or academic packets made available to parents for the summer.
Funds may be used to help students with nonacademic needs that involve school related needs such as instruments and or clothing, payment of ASB card, etc.

Student Learning Plans (15 min.)
Guiding Question: Are we using student learning plans to review student progress and to determine appropriate levels of intervention?
Discussion – Review of new Student Learning Plans. Several teachers used them during conferences, but not using it now as much. The paperwork is too laborious. What would be more efficient? John will talk with district about what we are doing and how to print student data on the SLP sheet. FMS would like to look into having SLP and CBA data in electronic format using Skyward.
Day Books – Professional Development (15 min.)
Guiding Questions: What kind of professional development can assist us in making the best use of Day Books?
Discussion – 8th grade team: The daybooks add one more thing that the team needs to do. They think that there are so many things and daybooks are the one thing that needs to go. Some teachers were using source books while others were using daybooks. What is the district expectation? Daybooks or not? Teams need to come together on a consensus and choose something that will work for everyone. Concerns that students are not interested in using the daybooks because previous teachers were using the daybooks incorrectly. Students may have had to do the daybooks as homework and have been over killed. FMS needs clarification on the districtÕs intent with the daybooks. FMS will sit down as a vertical team and make a decision regarding how they will use the daybooks.
Reading Vertical Teaming Purpose:
What text are we going to be using exclusively at each grade level?
Essential skills and knowledge sets by grade level. (6,7,8 teacher teams)
Use GLEÕs and blueprints as a framework.
*Please bring: Blueprint and GLEÕs
Science Vertical Teaming:
Books do not match the reading levels of our students.

PLC Summit (15 min.)
Guiding Questions: How will we select staff for attending the November conference in Seattle?
Discussion- Wait to see how many staff members can go and let the people who have never gone to PLCÕs go.
Vital Few B Feedback - Result(15 min.)
Guiding Questions: What did we learn? What might we do differently during our next Vital Few B?
Discussion- It was valuable to hear where other teams are at. It was challenging to give our staff good information because there was very little time to prepare. Share cabinet feedback with staff. Meet with your grade level teams versus whole staff. Share only once a year as a whole staff. Have better conversations at the grade level.
Could we use a half hour of LID Mondays for collaboration time? Could we use any other Monday times to collaborate?
Universal Release Form (15 min.)
Guiding Questions: Is a universal release form to acquire parental permission for various activities/services possible?
Discussion- John will check with Cashmere and Leavenworth to locate a universal student permission form.
